Plant's Ferry, Spokane River
Directions
Drive on Upriver drive along the river till you see a parking area with a wooden sign saying, "Spokane River Centennial Trail - The Islands Trailheads". Park in the parking lot and then take the small dirt trail that leads upstream. When you reach an area with a large rock island out in the middle of the river, you are there.
Description
This dive site can have strong currents, but in the fall the river slows down, and this spot becomes a great spot to dive. At this site you can see crawfish, rainbow trout, mountain whitefish and suckerfish (bridgelip and largescale). A little upstream from the rock there is some rapids that the trout like to hang out. The suckerfish also like the rapids; however, you can find them in large groups above the rapids laying on large flat rocks. Also above the rapids, there are often large schools of mountain whitefish.
In addition to the fish there are tunnels underneath the large rock island that you can go through. They can be a little tight and are full of logs so be careful. A little downstream there is an old crappy bicycle that can be fun to try to ride underwater.
